Hey y'all, what do you think of these curtains? I'm feeling rather ambivalent about them and am considering returning them. Maybe. I do need some curtains though for acoustics, because the room is too live and jangle-y. The last photo is just for fun, and so you can see what else is in the room.

The idea was to get a color very close to the wall, which these are. I think color-wise they look a little better than the photos suggest. Also, if we do keep them, we'll move some of those prints so they're not just bumping up to the curtains the way they are now.

P.S. WTG, what do you think of the rocking chair corner? After your comments about there not being a purpose, I tried to make that an obvious "sit here with a cup of coffee and a book" sort of spot. And now I sit there all the time. I love that rocking chair! :P

I like the color and the style.

At first I was going to ask what you thought of having similar curtains that went to the floor, then I decided that this length may suit the period of the house better.

I'm generally not a fan of curtains, but golly gee-whiz those look fabulous and really make the room. Love the length.

Meanwhile, I'm off to work on my diplomacy skills...I don't remember making the "no purpose" observation, but it sounds like something I would say but probably should find a better way to say it....

I was wondering about going to the floor as well. How often will they be fully drawn, vs opened? I see there are blinds behind them.

If you really want to go minimalist, you could just ditch the curtains and go with a valance, which seems to finish a window without much fuss. (Though, tbh, I've seen some pretty fussy valances.)

I like them! Lots of great vertical movement which helps with the illusion of greater height. Nice contrast to the lines of the rug, imo.

The whole room is throwing off a “Mission” vibe and the drapes are perfect! I like the fabric, rods and the length.

Those dark curtain rods nicely pick up the dark wood tones in your rug and furniture, too.

I like the curtains. Like the length.
Want to hear you play the piano there.

Color is great on both the curtains and the rods and they add some softness and curve among the right angles in that room.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!!! I’m thinking I’ll keep them. First of all I’m getting used to them, second of all, all of your comments are making me feel like it works as intended. (Also I don’t think the other curtain option I was considering will look as good)

As to the length, I don’t think they would work on this room. For one thing, the room is small enough I feel like it would be too much fabric, and I plan to have the curtains open most of the time.

Re the mini blinds, I’m wondering if I want to just get rid of those completely. I’m not a fan, and later, I put them all all the way up, and it looks much better that way. It’s just that the window faces the street and that seems a little too open. So I’m not sure what I want to do about that.

Nina, re minimalism, unfortunately, I really need curtains for the acoustics. The room is so live! In our rental, we have a sofa and two big plush, all-fabric arm chairs, but without those, the piano is pretty harsh and jangle-y. But since I not buying any furniture until I get a grand in here, adding curtains is about the only thing I can do to the room to dampen the sound.

BTW Steve, this is the room painted Navajo white, the photos kind of play up a yellow tone more than in person, but it’s really cool how the paint color is so influenced by all the warm tones in the room!

Now I need to finish unpacking my office and doing up the guest room... I think those are the last main “unpacking” tasks left. And it will probably take me a year to finish them.

Blinds are great for light and view control. I love being able to tilt the blinds slightly upward to keep the sun from streaming in, but still allowing me to see outside.

People have strong opinions about blinds... I’m pretty wishwashy about them at this point.

Leave the blinds, or at least live with them through all the seasons. (Sometimes it’s nice to be able to sort of see out, but control the amount of light that is coming through the windows.) The curtains look great.

I'll be the odd man out and say I don't like the length. What you have going on there is drapes, not curtains. Drapes should go to the floor. Curtains are meant to be pulled back, not hang straight down. To me, curtains are a very informal window treatment best left to kitchens and breakfast nooks. I don't like them in living spaces, as it makes them look ill-planned. Short drapes are an oxymoron in my book. To me, they scream motel room.
