I remember seeing the two of you play in Seattle. I love it that you have her music.

That's great! I have a handful of my mom's old music as well--not much because I bought my own copies of the stuff I loved when I grew up. I do have a compilation, like the Music for Millions series sk linked (that is a great series), but not exactly. It's totally falling apart, held together by scotch tape, rubber bands and paper clips. It's the book I first learned "real" music from. My go-to's for keeping limber as well as sight-reading are Scarlatti's and Hayden's sonatas. I'm sure Hanon would be better, but not as much fun! My last teacher also had me doing Pischna exercises, which are brutal. They are specifically designed to work on individual fingers and finger pairs. If you want a challenge.... disclosure: I did my Pischna exercises for about 6 weeks, max. LOL

Wanna know what I hated? Dohnanyi exercises. I periodically think I'll add them back into my practice routine, until I remember how much I hate them! Jodi, I know where you can get Wishing, I'll PM you. That is a lovely piece! I want to play Dreamland or Waterfall (Waterfalls?) next. Also, I love seeing your Mom's scorebook! I write the dates on things as well, I've just gone back to a piece I recorded years ago (I want to re-record it on my grand because it sounds sooo good!) But anyway, according to my notes, I first tried to play it in 2007, and made a recording of it in 2009. And now I'm playing it again, and please to discover how much easier it seems than I remembered!

Waterfall from that Utah guy, sk? That is a great piece! I lost my copy of it. I was just thinking about trying to dig it out a few days ago to fire it up again. In my experience it's one of those pieces that sounds a lot harder than it is. You can sort of lock into it, if that makes sense. EDIT: "Utah guy" - Jon Schmidt

Actually, I'm talking about Waterfalls by Ffrench. I have, however, found that Jon Schmidt's solo piano compositions are generally much harder than they seem! (that's the piano guy of the Piano Guys for those not familiar)

I didn't know Jon Schmidt was a "piano guy." I learned about him pre-piano guy from my first teacher when I returned as an adult. I would really recommend his "Waterfall." Google it and see if it is something you might like, but I think it fits with your taste in music. I really liked playing it, and I'm bummed that I can't seem to find my old music for it.

Nina, this one, right? I have hear that on my Pandora a fair amount, very pretty -- and very "Jon Schmidt-esque," if you ever listen to a Piano Guys arrangement/mash-up, you'll hear the same .... something-er-other in there, a certain energy or something that I hear in a lot of Piano Guys arrangements. Anyway, check these websites if you want the score: https://thepianoguys.com/produ...ariant=1990208684076 https://musescore.com/user/193131/scores/191701 https://deseretbook.com/p/wate...=17229-pdf-1-license I actually have Vol. 3 of his solo piano collections, but this one is in Vol. 1. IIRC he has actually written a huge amount of solo piano work.
