Mine is a selfish list - those who have created pieces that I so enjoyed practicing and performing - either as a bassoonist or singer.

Copland
Lauridson
Rachmaninoff
Arneson
Gershwin

Hard for me as I like certain pieces from composers, but not all.

Will have to think some more. It has changed from when I was younger...

Mozart and Bach (in order) because each defined an era.

I can't choose three more because my other favorites tend to be diverse and relatively obscure, e.g. John Dowland.

Interesting choice... I might substitute Gram Parsons but I'd certainly be OK with Lowell George.

Classical list of my personal top 5:
Brahms - just so beautiful
Ravel - always loved his piano pieces, wish I had ginormous hands so I could play them
Copland - my favorite thing to accompany are his "old American Songs"
Haydn - so much fun to play
Handel - "Messiah" was a transcendental experience for me when I first heard it live. I still love hearing/singing it.

My personal top 5 popular (as of today):
Joni Mitchell
Nanci Griffith
John Stewart
Ry Cooder
The Fratellis

These lists could change completely based on my mood and memory if you were to ask me the same question tomorrow. Big Grin
