But here we are … https://arstechnica.com/inform...e-computer-journals/ Apparently a 512 x 512 pixel scanned partial image of a certain Playboy centerfold from a 1972 issue has been used rather extensively in computer imaging research in the 1970s-1990s, and thus have been cited frequently in scholarly publications in this field. The IEEE is one of the largest publisher of technical papers on computer imaging, and only recently got around to banning the use of this image in its publications.
