The "miracles" of now. Mom slipped and fell Sunday getting ready to go to church. At 88, she still lives in the tri-level home where I grew up. She managed to scoot over to the phone to contact a neighbor (she has a wonderful local tribe!) and they called for an ambulance to get her to the hospital where it was determined that she had a broken hip.

Flat on her back Sunday and most of Monday (in pain) until they could get her into surgery and give her a total hip replacement. (the other side was done electively years ago) She was up walking a bit yesterday and is hoping to go home later today.

It just reminds me of how many things are possible now, and I'm thankful.

It's about 1/2 hr drive away with good traffic. I'm the 'local' son, my brothers are both far away. My older brother is retired and flew in yesterday to stay with her for a while...

Oh wow, that's great -- I mean, in that, this is exactly the outcome you want after a fall. I'm sure you are all feeling very relieved.

Glad to hear she got help on a timely basis and that her surgery was successful. And since you've had hip replacement yourself, you're in a good position to get her the right help at the right time during her recovery at home.

Let me know if there's anything I might be able to help with.

That's a much better outcome from the fall than might have occurred. Good to know your mother is doing so well.

How wonderful this is now available to your mom and other elders. Used to be a broken hip was pretty much a death sentence for the elderly. Continued good healing to her!
