RIP Stephen Sondheim
quote:
Stephen Sondheim, one of Broadway history’s songwriting titans, whose music and lyrics raised and reset the artistic standard for the American stage musical, died early Friday at his home in Roxbury, Conn. He was 91.

His lawyer and friend, F. Richard Pappas, announced the death, which he described as sudden. The day before, Mr. Sondheim had celebrated Thanksgiving with a dinner with friends in Roxbury, Mr. Pappas said.

I’ve heard his work is very good and very sophisticated. I have mostly ignored musical theater, but feel I ought to know his work. A pianist I know has commissioned dozens of composers to write piano pieces commemorating him.

Have never been a fan of musical theatre, but I like this.

I've never seen A Little Night Music, and the only version of the song that I'm familiar with is the Judy Collins version.

Background on the song :

(I'm guessing Quirt wrote that Wiki entry. If he didn't, he could have. Big Grin)

FF to 3:35 to see Glynis Johns and Len Cariou performing it at the end of the play:

I learned about internal rhyming from listening to Sondheim.
