A large percentage of the malcontents fueling the Trumpist carp are unemployed. The Washington Post Newsletter email Ruth Marcus By Ruth Marcus Deputy editorial page editor “The boys are not all right,” former presidential candidate Andrew Yang tell us, and he’s got the disturbing numbers to back up that assertion. More than twice as likely as girls to be diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Five times as likely to spend time in juvenile detention. It doesn’t get better after that. One-third of men are either unemployed or out of the workforce. More U.S. men ages 18 to 34 are living with their parents than with a romantic partner. What gives? Yang points to a variety of potential reasons: the decline of manufacturing jobs. The rise of single mothers. But whatever the cause, he warns, “male achievement — alongside that of women — is a condition for a healthy society. And male failure begets male failure, to society’s detriment.” Rather than dealing with this phenomenon, Yang argues, we have been ignoring it — or worse. “Our media, institutions and public leadership have failed to address this crisis, framing boys and men as the problem themselves rather than as people requiring help,” he writes. “This needs to change.” The data are clear: The boys are not all right American men and boys are struggling. I can think of an easy way for "the boys" to fix that. Seriously, this kind of throwaway comment really frosts my cookies. Women have been the majority (even, gasp, single mothers) in higher ed for about ten years now. I also find it interesting that the author (Michael Ian Black) doesn't mention the increase in drug addiction, targeted specifically and cynically at unemployed, lower income people, which skews to young men. Not boys. Puhleez. | |||

I didn't see a link so here it is: https://www.washingtonpost.com...s-are-not-all-right/ Not sure about the male ridicule/bashing in the comments. I didn't sign up for that when I sent in my progressive membership fees.
