Yeah the leak is bad and shouldn’t happen. But some of the commentary on both sides seems really overwrought. Lots of lefty folks claiming the leaker is a hero. Why? For telling us in May instead of June what we’ve known since last summer? The leak changes nothing, it just means the protests start 6 weeks earlier. And on the other side you see people thirsting for vengeance as if the leaker were Bin ******* Laden. Really out of proportion to the act. This wasn’t leaking secrets that were supposed to remain secrets. This was coming in 6 weeks anyway.

Didn't the original Roe decision leak out as well?

It did!

Jon, I agree. The leak isn't the point anyway. The content is what needs attention. I also saw something about how very few leaks have happened, and one of the few previous one was the original Roe v. Wade, so, ok, maybe that's suspicious? But I agree, calling the leaker a hero is a bit of a stretch...

The leak is politically useful, nothing more. No heroism involved.

One point that came out next door: Because of the leak, plenty of people now or will soon know (1) they live in a trigger state and (2) the decision is coming end of June. Many of whom would have been oblivious to both until it was a fait acompli

I’d guess people who get their news from certain sources are pretty oblivious to things like trigger laws and other things their local lawmakers are up to. It’s a feature, not a bug.

Let's not kid ourselves, most people get their news from their Facebook feed, which is highly curated to ensure you only see stuff that you "liked," (e.g., things you agreed with). I agree the impact here is primarily political. The timing is interesting, given that many states are holding primaries right now. I'm dubious that even this will jolt people enough to actually get out and vote. Sad, but true; I'm getting jaded in my dotage.

The ironic thing is this will take some of the punch out of the June ruling. If you actually think through the reasons one might have leaked this, they don’t make much sense. And that includes the (not unreasonable) possibility that a conservative clerk leaked it after or for fear of a defection.

I think they’re embarrassed by the decision and haven’t had enough time to come up with an excuse. If they’re not embarrassed they should be. They’re supposed to be better than this.

There is a video of Trump Jr. being very overwrought about this. I will not watch it. It is a distraction from the enormity of the decision. People will feel more justified when they bomb gay meeting places, etc. Evil never dies.
