Legendary actor Clint Eastwood voiced support for former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s presidential campaign Saturday in a defection from the Republican Party.

Eastwood had been one of the GOP’s most vocal supporters in Hollywood, giving a now-famous speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention excoriating President Obama. He also backed Trump in 2016, defending the president during his campaign against criticism over his coarse rhetoric.

However, he said he was backing Bloomberg in part because he would like to see Trump be more “genteel” in office.

"The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there," Eastwood said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, adding that he would like to see Trump act "in a more genteel way, without tweeting and calling people names."

"I would personally not like for him [Trump] to not bring himself to that level," Eastwood said.
