Hypothetical: a person gets Covid, gets sick, and then recovers. Can the person transmit the virus after they recover? Please let me add that my question is not political and is not personal. I know some people think that the answer is "no," but it seems to me, "yes," "maybe," and "unknown" might be possible answers. Thanks.

I haven't heard much discussion about that particular topic, so I went hunting. This article doesn't answer your question (though it touches on the general topic of viral load), but it's damned interesting. https://scitechdaily.com/super...0-of-covid-19-virus/

Daniel, I remember reading something that addressed this very question, but it's been a while and I'm not remembering where I read it. I think the pertinent question is, how much time has past after symptoms resolve. If someone is still actively symptomatic, I think it makes sense for that person to be considered still contagious. Once they are no longer symptomatic, I think the belief is that they are no longer a danger to others. The question is, after how long. At my university, during the last academic year, they had a testing policy in place, all faculty and staff had to be tested weekly. I don't remember the details but the rule was, in order to maintain access to campus, you either had to have a negative test or a certain number of days had to have past since a positive test, maybe it was 14 day? Now, the policy has changed, if someone has previously tested positive, they can't return to campus without a medical clearance letter. But note that it doesn't say you can't return to campus until you have a negative test, which is interesting. So I don't know what to make of that. Sorry, not helping your question!

I read it. Thanks! Viral loads? Interesting. Still, no definitive answer. I think my own thoughts for now are along the lines of, "unknown."

SK, no worries! I'm beginning to wonder if there is any scientific consensus about many aspects of this pandemic.

I think the answer is “yes.” It’s just a matter of how probable it happens. For that I think the probability is “low” but the specific value is “unknown.”
