I was just working on some genealogy over the weekend. My grandmother's parents were married for 7 years in 1900. The census asked how many children were born, how many survived..
They listed 8 children with 2 surviving. They went on to have 5 more children, three of whom died.
Then the parents both died in 1918 in the flu pandemic.

My grandmother was 9 at the time.
