NinaI always wonder what happens if they hit turbulence? I'm gonna bet that white smoking jacket (or whatever it's called) won't seem like such a good idea. Ditto the bottles and (real?) glassware and china.

Piano*DadOh yeah ...
Such a Golden Age ...I started flying in the 60s, at the very end of that era as it was transitioning into mass travel. The glamor was gone, and the safety hadn't improved.

AdagioMI just read Fly Girl by Ann Hood, a memoir of a stewardess/air hostess/flight attendant. Deregulation really did a number on air travel.

jon-nycTrue, but it made it much more accessible to the masses. It’s always a trade-off.

big alI started flying before deregulation so I've experienced some of those amenities. I remember the lounge area at the rear of a Continental Airlines plane and the cloth napkins and full meals served in coach back then. I've very seldom had the opportunity to fly first class, but I suspect at least some of that elegance still survives there, particularly on overseas flights.
As for me, I have very little desire to fly in today's airliners, particularly in coach.
