Why Are Young People Pretending to Love Work?
https://nyti.ms/2HKWg4P

Indeed such subculture exists, most notably in the startup scenes. The article brought up a historical parallel from old England when long, hard work was deemed virtuous in and of itself, yet somehow missed the entire “salary man” episode in Japan.

I wonder how many of those people who are logging those long hours are actually doing work during those hours? If I look around in my work life, everyone is "so busy," yet no one is around, and nothing is getting done. That's a bit of a hyperbole, but not much. But it is true that whenever someone says, "Busy," in response to "how are you doing?" I want to smack them, kind of. Logging long hours means you are super important and indispensable, it seems.... whether you actually are or not. What I've learned in my long career is that no one is irreplaceable.

DeGaulle put it best - the graveyards are filled with indispensable men.

It’s just a matter of replacement cost.
