You guys laugh all you want, I haven’t even begun interrogating the heteronormativity (and phallocentrism) of the word ‘derecho’.

There was a tornado in Rogers Park, east and a tiny bit south of us. 110 mph winds. O'Hare got 62 mph winds. I have no idea how we didn't get hit.

Mom's town still has many sections without power. I stopped by and she is fine, but there are still many trees down and even big branches hanging in power lines. No power, but her generator is powering everything but the AC. Her internet is down - that's her biggest concern right now because she texts and emails with her ipad to keep connected with everyone.

NWS has been out here and have determined (so far) that there were 13 tornadoes. Highest winds were 110 mph. 800,000 people lost power; about 35,000 are still out. It was a doozy.

Not terribly. I think I remember the one P*D mentioned. Edit: looks like there were several in 2013 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wik...st_of_derecho_events

Surprising you don’t get terrible fires. We certainly do.
