Has Achieved Nirvana |
From the ForeignPolicy.com website: https://foreignpolicy.com/2021...rchs-new-playground/ This is the first I have heard of the money laundering aspect, but it speaks to another thing I have been thinking about. There is an old Ford assembly plant not far from the lake house. It's been sitting vacant since 2005 and is a genuine eyesore. The plant has no value as manufacturing has moved elsewhere for the most part. There are a lot of similar abandoned buildings in Lorain County, and indeed across the rust belt. The residents don't like it being there and want the county to do something, but it appears their hands are tied. I assume Ford still pays property tax, so perhaps that's why the county is not particularly interested in doing anything. Even so, I'm sure some of the abandoned plants are (or were) owned by companies long since gone and no one pays the tax at all. It seems to me a program of condemning these properties and going after the owners to have them removed would be of great public benefit. I'm gong to ask Zimmer about this. He just retired after some 50 years in Urban Planning and should have lots of time to pontificate.
