The Washington DC mayor has changed the name of a plaza outside the White House to "Black Lives Matter Plaza" ...

And for those of you following along at home, that picture (I assume it's an actual photograph, not photoshopped) is on NW 16th looking south from K street. Two blocks long would run it to H street (there is no J street, legend has it because Benedict Arnold was the commander of J Company) to the north side of Lafayette Square. St. John's Episcopal Church (where I-1 had his picture took holding up a bible) is on the corner of 16th and H.

(I used to work at 18th and K. I walked through Lafayette Square many times. I also ran over Sam Donaldson's toes on my motorcycle on H at 17th or Connecticut. My light turned green and I started to go. He was engrossed in conversation and stepped into the crosswalk without looking.)

Wow. This is really interesting, esp. the criticism of it by BLM-DC.

It seems like the mayor is doing what she can in terms of removing troops from the city, which is commendable. And renaming the plaza is pretty amazing, although again, as the criticism points out, it's meaningless if it isn't accompanied by policy changes etc.

OMG.

I think I had my wedding reception on Black Lives Matter plaza. It was called 16th street 30 years ago, and our reception was at a hotel there.

Our anniversary is in September. I think we might have to take a romantic stroll down Black Lives Matter plaza!

Back then, it was called the Sheraton Grand.

We popped in a couple of years ago to take a look at the ballroom. It looks exactly the same.

What a view. And you can see all the big (military?) vehicles parked around the White House.
