We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love… and then we return home. - Australian Aboriginal proverb

How lovely! My two sons are finally back for a family visit, the one from the Bay Area and the other from around Boston. We had a festive meal (albeit the first time I didn't make honey cakes since one son and I are avoiding sugar - although for allowing ourselves enough honey for apple dipping).

The younger (SF) son couldn't stay for the whole holiday as his work has become so much more demanding, so he had to change his ticket. Only the older one will be fasting with me.

L'Shana Tovah Tikatevu ve G'mar Chatimah Tovah. May you be inscribed and sealed for a Good Year!

Jewish or not, it never hurts to put in a good word for oneself! The former twice times president of the synagogue died suddenly last week, reminding us extra of the transitory nature of Life. By chance we sat behind a good friend on Rosh Hashanah, whose advanced ovarian cancer I've been following in the online Caring Bridge journal she's sharing. The unsaid question one always asks oneself on this holiday (who will and who won't be present this time next year?), was especially palpable between us, knowing in detail the latest developments of her merciless illness. She has critical tests and scans awaiting her within the week.

May we all be written in the Book of Life, 5783!
