AmandaRape survivor fights rapist for child's custody
And not just in Alabama, either.
How crazy can people be anyhow?
And (as all too often, these days), it's a matter of men having power over women.
rapist's "parental rights" quote:
Ned Holstein, board chair for the National Parents Organisation...says
even if a person is convicted of rape, “there is merit on both sides of this issue, and we have no position on it, either way,” he said of his organisation.
What may be the most shocking instance of such a rapist's demand, involves a young woman who began to be raped by a family member beginning when she was a child of 12. This resulted in four pregnancies before she was 18. Now she has been faced with a successful demand by her rapist for shared parental rights of the two surviving children, including visitation.
Admirably and remarkably, she managed to create a stable life for the three of them. It's now endangered by the sickening ruling in favor of her incestuous rapist.
In Alabama, rapists can even be awarded not only co-parenting, but actually gain custody of a child of rape - one of two states with such a law.
