I haven't tried doing this yet, but wanted to pass it along to others who might be in the same boat as I am.

I have an old desktop that we still use that is running Windows 7; I had gotten it not long before Windows 10 came out and just never upgraded it to Windows 10 when Microsoft was doing their free update thing a few years ago.

I'm going to give it a go and see if I can get the free update to work. I'll report back results.

Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade

Microsoft's much-hyped free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ended in 2016, right? Not exactly. The GWX tool may be gone, but all the other upgrade tools still work. The end result is an apparently valid digital license, and there's no evidence that the free upgrades will end any time soon.

At one time it was advised that one was lucky to have 7 instead of 10. So I kept 7 on purpose.

I cannot remember why but there were problems.

Any one remember? I have an old good laptop and a pc and haven't touched them in a year but I do have stuff on the laptop I would like to add to. Lenovo.

I was gun shy after Windows 8 flopped spectacularly. Turns out Windows 10 was fine.

Microsoft seems to go in cycles like that.

Windows XP was good, its successor Vista had issues.

Windows 7 was good, Windows 8 not so much.

Windows 10 is fine.

Win10 works fine for me.

You may want to check the resource requirements for Win10. It's a much larger program than Win7 and I understand it can overload some older computers.

Mr. SK just upgraded one of his old laptops from 7 to W10, he didn't have any problems (although I don't know about the specs for the laptop).

He did it because IIRC MS is going to stop providing support and updates for W7, and maybe that deadline is coming up this month?
