Just googled bit about them, and as I feared, one drawback for a lazy cook like me is the requirement to clean it with every use. That's expectable, of course, but it sounds as if there are a fair number of parts needing cleaning and I 'd think those surfaces would probably be coated with burnt on food. Thinking (as I can hardly consider such a device urgent) I'm probably better off waiting a while at the very least. Prices will certainly drop and reviews will give more detailed information about them overall as well as the individual makes. Meanwhile, I'll just have to drool about that jerky I'm paying an arm and a leg for!

I’ve used it four times now and see no reason to clean it. There is a drip pan that goes under the air fryer basket and it can go in the dishwasher. The interior is said to be coated with something that makes it easy to wipe out if you need to. That said, I doubt I’ll broil in it. That would probably make a mess.

Update. We hand battered fresh shrimp and I’ve never tasted better! Crisp outside, nicely cooked inside, and no grease! Nice and brown, too.

Got Bob the Cuisinart AFR-25 for Xmas. It is going back. To toast, one must toast one side at a time. There is only one heating element. Will be returning it.

I've never seen that model. I wouldn't want it either.

Don't have an air fryer so I haven't tried these recipes; am passing them along for the WTF AFers: https://www.thekitchn.com/air-fryer-recipes-264238

I made Brussels sprouts and they came out nice and crisp in a very short time. I've also perfected my beef jerkey recipe, using round steak instead of flank. The trick is a long marinade time and a much shorter cook time than most recipes call for. This may have to do with the type of air fryer you use - mine tends to run hot. Recipe here. I marinade for two days+ and only cook for an hour. Next up: Air fryer egg rolls.

It browns things nicely. We discovered a new use this week - it reheats leftover tacos to a nice crispy state AND reheats pizza better than any other way we’ve tried. The taco thing was a shock. Leftover tacos are normally terrible.

I've learned that there are a bunch of different air fryers--primarily those that are square with windows and look a lot like toaster ovens, and those that look like a little spaceship pod, no window. I have the spaceship pod. I really like it. Yes, it does the standard stuff really well--frozen stuff like potatoes (tater tots, in particular are transformed in an air fryer), etc. But I also really like it for reheating, and I'm now using it a lot to cook fish and chicken in a variety of ways. It's super-easy, fast, small, and requires no preheating. It really bugged me to have to fire up the entire oven in order to heat/reheat a big chicken breast or some rice or whatever... and reheating things in the microwave is often yucky. The air fryer really reheats well, no "dead spots," etc. Fish is great--figure about 10 minutes per inch of thickness @ 350. Mine doesn't have a liner, it has a detachable container where the food actually goes. It's not difficult to clean at all.

Turns out it’s really good for reheating pizza!

Mary Anna did not like Brussel sprouts in the air fryer. Side note: I really, REALLY dislike the smell of cruciferous vegetables cooking.

I got an off-brand one, something like USAWise, because it was cheap, on sale and red. Priorities. I figure if I like it, I can replace this one when/if it goes out with something more fancy.
