"They are very helpful in reducing the chances that the person will get COVID because it's reducing the amount of virus that you would inhale from the air around you," Marr said about masks.

No mask is 100% effective. An N95, for example, is named as such because it is at least 95% efficient at blocking airborne particles when used properly. But even if a mask has an 80% efficiency, Marr said, it still offers meaningful protection.

"That greatly reduces the chance that I'm going to become infected," Marr said.

I've started masking again when I go shopping.

Your link seems broken, perhaps it's incomplete?

I have been masking in the classroom all semester, and a while back I started masking in meetings and other things around campus. We're masking at the grocery store.

But I'm inconsistent... like, I don't mask in my office, and then I walk through shared spaces and go to the bathroom on my floor. This isn't a high traffic area like other parts with a lot more students coming and going, but it's still public space with probably not the best ventilation...

We'll see how it goes...

Think about all the other ways you're protecting
yourself.

Other people who have a cold.

Other people who have the flu.

Industrial chemicals.

Particulates from fires.

Vehicle exhaust.

I'm wearing surgical masks.

Nobody I know and almost all of the people I see aren't wearing one.

I got Covid a second time a couple of weeks ago. No fun but no lasting damage. I have started masking more often again.

I suppose I should get the new shot too.

My doc said to wait until December for the new shot because I had Covid in September. Your doc may say to wait, too?

I still mask at the grocery store.

But I went to dinner and a concert last night, unmasked. Hoping my temporary antibodies will keep me safe.

I know, I’m not consistent. But any masking is better than no masking, and adds to risk reduction.

Thanks for your take. I haven’t consulted a doctor about this but it sort of makes sense to wait a bit if you’ve just had Covid. I had been thinking of getting the new shot pretty soon.

It might depend on one’s age. I’m 74.

You could also ask a pharmacist, I'm pretty sure there's a standard set of recommendations, and if you can tell them when you last had covid, plus your age, they should be able to give you the recommendation.
