Steve MillerChinese Chili Crisp Condiment
I think I first heard about it here but I can’t find the thread. #1 condiment in China. China is a big place - I gotta try this stuff. Bought 4 jars, gave 3 out as stocking stuffers.
I was disappointed when I tasted it out of the jar. Not real spicy, really not much flavor at all. Bah! Stuck it in the fridge and kind of forgot about it.
But then I tried it on cottage cheese. Wow! Changed everything! Tried it all sorts of foods after that. I wouldn’t say it’s umami but has a way of waking up whatever you put it on. It doesn’t overwhelm but kind of warms it up.
I used the last of my jar in a bowl of vegetable soup. I scratch made the soup and it’s really good but with chili crisp in it it’s a whole new dish. Fantastic!
I bought two more jars.

QuirtEvansI just saw a review for something like that on Wirecutter. The reviewer liked it a lot.

I'll definitely put it back on the menu after my gallbladder and I part ways...

jodiI don’t remember that other thread, and I’ve never heard of this, but just found a recipe for it. Maybe when it warms up and I can cook it outside, I’ll try making it - looks really good.

pianojugglerI have heard that white rice with generous amounts of chili crisp is the go-to thing on college campuses for hangovers.
I like it a lot.
