Alto crwth with video (krooth) Stumbled upon this. Interesting to hear. Think I don't need one.

Enjoyed the mashup of high-tech and homespun: “Crwths have a pine body, with aircraft grade laminated back and soundboard, and walnut fingerboard, tailpiece and bridge.”

I can't play an instrument with no vowels in its name.

I think its pronounced “crowd.” Or at least it’s a variant.

My mother, who was born in Canada, learned the vowels as "a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y and w." And while we're on the topic of my mother and Canada (at least, I am), she was born in New Brunswick and started school there; the family moved to Michigan, following other family members, hoping to find work during the Great Depression; then they moved back to New Brunswick (not sure why); and finally moved to Michigan again for keeps. In all this moving around, she learned four national anthems: God Save the King; My Country Tis of Thee; Oh, Canada; and The Star-Spangled Banner. | |||

1) Actually, I remember that as well. 2) As a linguist, I should be ashamed. Dale, it's interesting to think of all that moving around in that era, no internet and all that. When we moved from Japan to the US, we had already arranged an apt. to lease before leaving Japan; we ended up living there for 7 years. And the same when we moved to our current city, we found a house to rent 100% online. And although I complained about it (and it had loads of problems) it was a perfectly fine place to live. That's just one example of how different things were...

I learned "a, e, i, o, and u, and sometimes y." I guess those things are regional, even for English-speakers.
