I've known this for some time but don't remember where I read it.

His first point is the critical one. Masks needed to be preserved for health care workers. They were the ones at greatest risk, and there was a fear that the number of cases could overwhelm the number of health care workers.

So yeah, he lied. I understand why. Telling the truth could have resulted in a misallocation of resources, and more people could have died.

He was in a very difficult position.

This has become an excuse for the deniers. I have no time for it.

Wear your mask, meet outside, wash your hands and get the shot.

Anything else has no interest to me.

Nope. Didn't lie. Prioritized based on the information available at that time.

Primary spread was thought to be from contact, or getting directly coughed or sneezed on.

Outside of dealing with an active case was thought to be safe - we didn't know about the asymptomatic spread percentage.

Scientific knowledge adapts to new data. Making a big deal about past recommendations with information now available is just "gotcha" politics and media dollars at work.

It will be safe to go around without protection when infection numbers are almost non-existent... why is that so hard to understand??

Easy. People don't "understand" what they don't want to understand or what doesn't serve their purposes.

I really dislike throwing out things like so-and-so "lied," when they told the truth as they knew it at the time. Lied is such a negative term, and implies intent.

Are little kids lying when they say they believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny?
