Skies over Mississippi
quote:
A pilot that threatened to crash in Tupelo is in custody after landing safely in a Benton County field.

The situation began at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.

“TPD was notified that a pilot of an airplane (possibly King Air type) was flying over Tupelo. The pilot has made contact with E911 and is threatening to intentionally crash into Wal Mart on West Main,” the Tupelo Police Department reported at 6:37 a.m.

Several hours later, the plane landed in a field in Benton County, which is northwest of Tupelo.

The pilot, Cory Patterson of Shannon, is alive and was taken into custody.

Whoa.

I've heard (I'm sure we all have) of pilots who commit suicide this way.

I think the key thing in this case is that nobody got injured or killed after this man expressed his criminal intent.
