The Saga of Don
I probably mentioned that Don broke his hip in July.
Saturday around 6:30pm he had a twisting fall in his bedroom and fell.
Over an hour later he relented and let me call the ambulance.
The femur broke below the "nail" installed earlier.
Last night he got a new surgical "nail" that goes the full length of his femur.
Wonder what a spike near the full length of the femur does to the bone marrow's work.
Don is very sick of being sick and damaged. He has been fighting various cancers since 2004. This year his rosy outlook left him. When he brought up suicide years ago he promised not to do it in our home.
Sorry I am unloading this.

Sorry Don is experiencing this Chas. It is hard on you too so remember to take care of yourself.

Will keep Don in my thoughts and hope for a good outcome.

So sorry to hear this. I remember you discussing his fall in July. Falls are such a problem as we age. A few months ago I was doing some cleaning in a shower. I was standing beside the tub, leaning over against the tile wall behind it when my hand slipped. I fell backward into the tub, twisting as I went so that I didn't smack my head on the porcelain of the tub. That exact moment created a deeper personal understanding of fall risks.

Here's hoping that nail works well.

I’m so sorry Don is going through this. And I’m sorry that it affects you as the caregiver, too. Vent all you need. And take care of yourself, too.

I hope Don can recover from this latest episode and that being the caregiver doesn't completely exhaust you. I know what demands I put on my wife because of my ongoing knee problem so I have some particular sympathy for what you must have to handle for a much longer stretch of time.

So sorry to hear about Don…hope he recovers fully.

I get so worried about falls…especially since I was knocked off my bike. I am looking into balancing exercises and tai chi.
