what was done to end events like that.

Why are they firing the (most likely) minimum-wage "staff," and apparently doing nothing with the management? It seems that the message was tacitly if not directly sent: "yeah, he's a racist but he's a regular so don't bug him." The fact that everyone knew he was a racist points to a systemic problem with management, seems to me.

Sounds like the staff are scapegoats.
