It’s all over the news.
Elon Musk’s offer to buy Twitter out and take it private has been accepted by Twitter’s Board.
Valuation comes out to around $42+ Billion. Shrug

Truth Social stock tanked. Actually Digital World Acquisition Corp stock, but that’s a nit.

I don’t use/read Twitter all that often, but this (musk’s purchase) seems like very bad news. Although maybe twitter’s already bad enough that it won’t change much?

Thoughts?

Yet to be seen...

Interesting piece on NPR yesterday where the panelists thought that limiting content (fact checking) wasn't the solution, what would really make a difference would be:

1. tweaking the platforms to limit sharing/retweeting without at least a copy/paste.

2. Eliminate unknown members - even if the public only saw avatars, make sure the platform could link an avatar back to a real person in a specific country.

There were a couple of other simple steps that would change the power of the noise machines.

Essentially the data shows that social media discusion is dominated by:

1. A small chunk from the extreme Right and extreme Left - predominantly white and wealthy on both sides

2. Trolls - those that enjoy making trouble

3. International (mostly Russian) political troublemakers.

So instead of giving everyone a voice, the structure has created a place where the above three have an oversized voice and the rest of us have less influence.

From Andy Borowitz:

Musk Deletes Every Twitter Account but His

In an official statement, Musk said that he deleted everyone else’s accounts to address “the No. 1 problem plaguing Twitter: the relentless flood of voices inferior to mine.”
