wtgIllinois (Cook County in particular) is known for its lousy assessment process that allows politicians and their friends who are lawyers in the real estate assessment appeal racket make a ton of money.
There's a new assessor and he's been cleaning up some of the previous sins.
About what's going on:
https://www.chicagotribune.com...loabrepxu-story.htmledit: The triennial reassessment was last year and we appealed and got a reduction, so our value is somewhat lower this year than the previous year. But we do that most years and it has never resulted in a reduction in taxes relative to the previous year. Taxes are *always* going up, until this year.
I'm wondering if there are upward changes in commercial assessments in the area so that they are paying closer to their fair share and ours has correspondingly gone down.
