Wow. I have zero creativity when it comes to jack-o-lantern carving. I prefer to think of myself as a "traditionalist."

Any tips from anyone about how to remove the goo inside? I look in other people's pumpkins and they are completely clean and smooth. Are they just more neurotic than I am (or more patient)?

I used to buy the stencils that you tape onto the pumpkin.

The specialized pumpkin carving tools make a huge difference in cleaning out and carving. The sets usually come with a wide paddle scraper with teeth on the edges.
