It recently struck me how consistently he can be found at the intersection of low class and fake.   It doesn't even warrant comment to find him there. He just belongs.

Think about it.

Of course he's buddy buddy with the guy that runs the National Enquirer.

Of course he's been involved in pro wrestling.

Of course he hosted a reality TV show.   And another.

Of course he chases porn stars.

Of course he gilds everything in cheap gold plate

Of course he sold get rich quick schemes on infomercials.

I'm probably missing a few.

I'd describe it slightly differently. He craves to be the "best" ... the smartest, the richest, the most successful, the tallest, the most handsome. But he's both lazy and cheap, and he has always failed to generate respect from the "elite". So he is stuck with pretending he's the best, in every category. Richest. Smartest. Tallest. Most clever. Most handsome. And he will do anything that reinforces those pretenses. He also gravitates toward get rich quick schemes, because he wants money and has no ethics. If you want money and don't mind doing things that are tawdry, unethical, or downright illegal, of course you'll gravitate toward those things, because everyone ... the people with a moral code, the people willing to work hard ... can compete in the lawful and clean space, but there are things they won't do so there's less competition and less hard work in the tawdry space.

The world is changed by people who do not accept an existing reality and bend it toward their will. Sometimes for the better, and, in this case, for the worse.

I don't know all the details of his casino acquisitions/flops, but that seems like another data point towards jon's thesis. Take a business that is often on the edge of legality, slap your name and some faux "classy" finishes on it, call it the best, most classy, most elegant. Fail utterly in keeping it open.
