Well that's pretty underwhelming. 500K users broke Twitter.

quote:
“We’ve got so many people here that we are kind of melting the servers,” Sacks said at one point.

More than 500,000 Twitter users joined the event, which was ultimately ended and then restarted, delaying DeSantis’ announcement by nearly half an hour. When the event was relaunched using Sacks’ account, only around 250,000 users ultimately listened in.

Hotel entrepreneur Robert Bigelow, the biggest individual donor to a group supporting Ron DeSantis' presidential bid, told Reuters on Friday he will not donate more money unless the Florida governor attracts new major donors and adopts a more moderate approach.

The comments by Bigelow, who gave $20 million to the pro-DeSantis "Never Back Down" super PAC in March, underscore donor concerns about the Florida governor's struggling campaign, which has been unable to make a dent in former President Donald Trump's huge lead for the 2024 Republican nomination.

"He does need to shift to get to moderates. He'll lose if he doesn't ... Extremism isn't going to get you elected," Bigelow said in an interview, adding that he had communicated these concerns to DeSantis' campaign.

From the article: “We’re booking ’26 to ‘30 now, so any impact that this might have is not going to be seen for years to come.”

By DeSantis’ reckoning he’d be in the White House by then, so not a deterrent.

What is this guy drinking? The ONLY way to get elected today within the GOP is to be extremist, know-nothing, cruel, and a brazen liar. Sound like someone? You cannot appeal to the Trump base as a moderate, and the Trump base dominates the party.

And what does it say about DeSantis if he suddenly moderates his positions because a donor tells him to do it. It says that he is an effing hypocrite whose campaign is for sale. Oh, but we already knew that.
