There's no way we would be living down here without AC, that's something I've thought about a fair amount, given that we moved here from WI, where a lot of house get by without AC, and so it's common to see only window units instead of central air.

Also, I couldn't keep my piano playable without being able to control the climate, maybe a dehumidifier alone would do it, but I tend to doubt it!
