Has Achieved Nirvana |
So I decided to look around for a house for Steve and post some finds here for consideration. Found this gem; let's call it #1. Notable for its stairs and interesting use of space. https://www.realtor.com/reales...H_44044_M30496-94553

#2 A kind of boring ranch, but what a clean basement. https://www.realtor.com/reales...H_44054_M40393-00214

Foregoing Vacation to Post |
Nice house. Concerning the staircase in the post no. 1: It reminds me of the “suicide” staircase used in the opera “Lucia di Lammermore” in order to depict her emotional state. There was no banister on both sides of the staircase. One false step and it was all over for both Lucia and the singer playing her character. Hopefully the singer playing Lucia got a bonus for having to traverse that staircase. In the photo, the stair case has only one side with a banister. One false step made on the non-banister side of the staircase and down you go with nothing to grab on to. It certainly wouldn’t be legal in a high traffic commercial use building. I’m not a building inspector but I doubt that a staircase without a banister on an open side of a staircase is building code legal even for residential usage in my city. It could be modified though to include a hand rail on both sides.

They seem to have a thing for this style of staircase:

And for the odd photography angles! Seriously most of the photos it looks like photographer is just seconds from falling over!

First house is nice, but with no A/C and about $75K in improvements required it's probably not for us. It is, hovever, pretty cool and it has three garages! Second house is exactly what Sharon wants but $457 is ALL the money in Sheffield Lake...

P. S. - Those staircases are terrifying and tell me that no one ever pulled a permit for anything on that house.

Yea, the first house was a joke....it clearly needs a ton of work. Can't tell if that's a bucket under the sink or a wastebasket next to it. And when I saw those staircases I was like and The second one is nice but I thought overpriced.

My ex-wife had a staircase leading to her basement that had a wall on one side, no bannister on the other. My daughter, I think around age eight or nine, went over the side one day and broke her wrist. That's when I learned the acronym FOOSH (fall on outstretched hand), and that it's one of the most common causes of emergency room visits.

Number 3 is under contract but I'd love to hear Steve's take on it....(besides that it's across the street from a school....) https://www.realtor.com/reales...H_44054_M40421-46613 That thing on the wall in the family room next to the door opening looks like a giant cat condo.....

I’d buy that house in a hot minute! It’s beautiful! We’ve lived across the street from a school for 30 years and it’s never been a problem. The school yard is a good place to play fetch when the kids aren’t there.

I thought it looked like a stack of giant empty toilet paper rolls...

Well, we found a perfect house. All it needs is a flooring change and a fence. Everything else about it is exactly right. Very close to the kids. HOA handles landscape maintenance and snow removal. Right-sized yard. No separate living room. Single story. Basement. Only problem is we don't have the deal on selling our house wrapped up and they're not likely to take a contingent offer in this market. Can't blame them - I wouldn't either. It looks like a scaled back version of the Dean Road house to me. 5724 Overlook Way North Ridgeville

Can you write them a letter? Or at least have your agent tell their agent about your reasons for wanting the house (i.e., to be close to the kids). That might move them to consider your offer???

BTW, that's a very nice house! And very roomy for a "two bedroom"!
