An existing medicine can “downgrade” the danger-level of coronavirus to that of a common cold, a Jerusalem researcher is claiming, after testing it on infected human tissue.

Prof. Yaakov Nahmias says that his research shows that the novel coronavirus is so vicious because it causes lipids to be deposited in the lungs, and that there is a solution to undo the damage: a widely-used anti cholesterol drug called fenofibrate.

Big if. I'm instantly suspicious of grand claims in the Times of Israel.

Seems highly speculative. Firstly, as if that’s all the virus does, and second, whether this drug will prevent it.

I take fenofibrate.

And I take hydroxychloroquine.

If any of the overblown claims about their utility for COVID-19 are true, I'm in good shape!

People (like me) who already take blood thinners ought to be in relatively good shape if they contract the virus too.

As I guess we all know by now, COVID does much/most of its damage through microcoagulation throughout the body. Thus, people diagnosed with COVID are immediately started on blood thinners if not already taking them.

(From this article, I wonder if the coagulation is blood and/or lipids, though.)

Hydroxychloroquine is something that actually works.

Yes, blood clots throughout the body (not only the lungs).
