Plenty of reactions to the USWNT’s spectacular defense of its World Cup focused on the future—this team’s ability to change the world, influence the next generations, and affect national conversations. While correct, those thoughts also miss a crucial component of the U.S.’s unprecedented fourth-ever run to World Cup glory: It was fun as hell to watch.
That was a great game. Have new respect for women's sports. There is an equal pay problem when women's sports don't draw ticket sales and advertising that men's sports draw. Games like that world cup game should narrow the gap.

There's an aspect to the equal pay issue that isn't well publicized, and that's that the men's team and the women's team are compensated on different bases.
The women's team has a guaranteed contract. The men's team is paid when they play.
That doesn't account for the discrepancy in pay, though, and the soccer federation could fix that, if it wanted to.
