Someone, (Jodi? Nina?) suggested we pack a box to be opened first once we get to the new house. What should we put in it?

I remember that cutters and scissors were suggested - what else?

Any of the important hardware for your furniture you need right away - (like those metal things for shelving) internet hookup stuff - anything you will need right way and don’t want to hunt for in a million boxes. A roll of paper towels, toilet paper - the stuff you needed right up to the end of when you left your house. Something to write with.

You can always order takeout and eat straight out of the carton, but I hate plastic forks and knives. A few pieces of silverware.

The television remote.

A charging strip.

A set of sheets and some pillows.

Two bath towels so you can shower.

Light bulbs for your lamps, for any rooms that have no overhead lights.

Was gonna suggest this. Most of the time, plastic forks are close to useless.

Some basic tools. What you’d need to fix something quickly like an electrical outlet, and tools you need to assemble day one furniture.

When I was moving my mother, it had her meds, coffee cup, instant coffee, telephone, and a very long phone cord. Anything else on her nightstand.

As you’re packing, whatever the last things you pack are should be what go in the Number 1 box.

I had no idea so many people felt that way too.

I've always felt it important to keep track of plants, pets, and kids while moving. If it helps you out to put them in a box, well that seems harsh to me but it's ultimately your decision.

Please do put some air holes in the box, along with some food and water.
