I rarely finish a book that I think deserves that moniker.

There are several books that people love that I just couldn’t get through.

Harry Potter is one such series, Tolkien books are another.

I started to read one called Origins which was a survey of various mythologies and origin stories. It was horrible. Very poorly written. I ditched it before I finished the first chapter.

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

Loved it until the ending and suddenly I felt duped.

Murakami Haruki's books are often like that for me. Not quite "duped," but several of his books, I get to the end and it feels like he just got tired of writing and arbitrarily decided "ok, I'm done here."

The DaVinci Code. Garbage. Wasn't far into it before I threw it against a wall.

Eat Pray Love was trash too.

I've never read Harry Potter. Mr Pique and I decided to try watching the first movie recently. It was so utterly bad we switched it off and both agreed we were glad we'd never bothered with the books.

Books that are badly written are bad enough. When they get published it's an affront to literature. When they are bad, get published, *and* become international best sellers one loses all faith in humanity.

Hated Eat Pray Love; it was like word barf. You could have read the topic sentence of each paragraph and had enough of the book.

I totally had that impression and decided not to read it for that reason alone, despite the fact that everyone was raving about it at the time.

A book by John Madden that my brother loved.
I could not finish one page.
Madden has no native language. Unreadable
