Wait... what? Now coffee is good for you?

I stopped drinking coffee a year ago and I sleep much better now. I was only having a cup a day. Anything more than that gave me jitters and I couldn't sleep at all. I drink a cup of tea every day, usually Earl Grey.

I just wish they (whoever "they" is) would make up their minds.

I have one doctor who tells me I need to consume less cholesterol. I have another one who says I need to add more protein to my diet and recommends eggs and cheese. Yet other guy says I should eat more nuts, but the GI guys no nuts.

I would go on bread and water but all my doctors want me to limit carbs.

*sigh*

The question of dietary cholesterol drives me crazy. Some say it matters; others say it doesn't.

I'm subscribing to the theory that your blood cholesterol is determined about 95% by your genes, not by what you eat.

And every doctor I see has a different opinion. My "good" cholesterol is too low or my ratio of LDL and HDL is out of whack, but my total cholesterol is okay.

In other news...

I just got on with a new primary doctor.

The previous one, whom I only saw twice, was horrible. She asked a lot of questions about my parents' and brothers' health, but she kept second-guessing or making very nasty comments about their diagnoses. She wanted to put me on six new drugs and double or quadruple the doses of the ones I was already taking. Then she gave me a very demeaning lecture about diet and exercise, but told me she didn't think I was capable of either one so I might as well start taking all the drugs on her list.

The next time I tried to see her, she refused to listen to my issues (joint pain that was keeping me awake most of the night). I told her in the politest terms I could muster to f off, and I did not expect to be billed for the visit. When I did get the bill, I called the office manager and asked why I was being billed when I didn't get any actual health care. She ate the bill.

By the time I got the bill, I had already found another doctor and had surgery for the joint pain that Dr. Dingbat refused to acknowledge.

Sheesh.

Oh, and a little (very little) googling revealed that she had had action taken against her license in three states, including for writing prescriptions for her family members.

Nutrition and, more generally, epidemiology, is a choked toilet of p-hacking and selling brute correlations as causality.

I always liked warren Buffett’s take on the subject. Because of the correlation between your Mother’s life expectancy and your own, he bought his mother a gym membership…

Doug - Big Grin

I read articles like this one with interest and then proceed to ignore much/most of the advice. It's worked pretty well so far.
