Seattle has closed all K-12 schools starting today for two weeks. Bellevue (which I think is the second largest district in the state) closes tomorrow. Bellevue said it will organize some activities and provide meals to kids who rely on school lunches. I think the huge impact will be on parents who need to stay home when their kids are home. Single parents who maybe work two jobs. It's gonna be tough.

A friend lives in Sequim on the Olympic Peninsula. She sometimes goes into Seattle for the ballet or a play and had tickets for both for next weekend. Those events are cancelled because they are over 250 people. She was in Paris about a month or six weeks ago, before things were breaking in Europe. She hasn't come down with anything. Her mom, who lives with her, is 92. She said they're just hunkering down.

I was going to go to a Baroque concert this weekend. I just got an e-mail that it has been cancelled, however, the musicians will apparently be going to the local classical music radio station and broadcast the concert live.

Today the Governor of Washington State declared that all public K-12 schools in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties are to close not later than March 17 and stay closed until April 24. Seattle is in King County which is actually pretty big, extending east to the Mountains. Pierce is the county to the south of King (Tacoma is in Pierce County). Snohomish is to the north. This includes over 560,000 kids.

I mentioned in the other thread but all publicly funded schools in the province of Ontario have been closed down until April 5. The news came very suddenly this afternoon. We are at school tomorrow, and then out for three weeks. ETA: that’s about 2 million students
