So my neighbors on the corner put a vinyl white picket fence around their entire yard, front and back.

Then they decided to get a dog. A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He's a little guy and it turns out that he can fit between the pickets.

The solution: Make the dog wider.

This is the third or fourth Cavalier that I've met in the last few years. They seem to be a very sweet breed, not barky or overly excitable. While I'm awfully fond of goldens, I'm thinking ahead to a day when a smaller breed might be a better choice for us.

Anyone know more about these guys?

The neighbors have two. They are not barky.
I meet one when walking that is well trained and is usually off leash.

My roofer and my asphalt guy each have Cavaliers that ride around in the truck with them all day. Big guys, small dogs.

They are both very calm dogs and utterly devoted to their owners. I've never heard either one of them bark.

The first Cavalier I met was maybe twelve or thirteen years ago. Funny backstory...

His owner Julia has a gourmet kitchen shop up in Door County. We've gotten to know her over the years, and during one of our chats we figured out that her Newfoundland Hobson (what a great name for a Newf) was uncle to our Mambo. Mambo's mom Sally was bred by a Newf breeder from souther Door County, and Sally and Hobson were littermates.

Anyway, Hobson finally crossed the rainbow bridge, and Julia decided to get a Cavalier as her next dog. She says they are big dogs in little bodies. Her little guy (don't remember his name) is often in the shop and is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. Also well-behaved.

Sounds like their temperaments are nice; wonder if they have any health issues.

My sister had several, and even fostered them.

Yes sweet dogs. Lap dogs.

Demand attention, but you'd certainly supply that!

My niece raises English Cockers. A little larger. Really nice. Top breeder, NH.
