Going Out of Business because of COVID-19
There is this local company that specializes in giving people rides to and from the airport. Family owned, family operated since forever. I have used this company to travel to and from the airport for over a decade. Today I received a phone call from said company saying that they are calling all their long-time customers to announce that they will be going out of business for good at the end of this month. The phone call makes no mention of COVID-19, but that's about the only reason that is plausible.

This is company is not perfect, there were a couple of times when they forgot about my reservations and I had to call them to remediate the oversight. But for as long as I have used them, they have never made me miss any flight, and they have never failed to send me home after a flight.

I am very sorry to see them go.

This will happen to tens of thousands of small service-sector businesses. An awfully high percentage of non-chain restaurants will likely die, absent government handouts to tide them over. And millions of lower-income service sector workers will lose their income. This will be an awful recession. I thought we'd see it by fall. That's way optimistic now.

I'm worried about my bakery lady. There's no way she can survive this.
