The hottest new thing in sustainable building
quote:
Architects, builders, and sustainability advocates are all abuzz over a new building material they say could substantially reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the building sector, slash the waste, pollution, and costs associated with construction, and create a more physically, psychologically, and aesthetically healthy built environment.

The material is known as, uh, wood.

Sure. Lam beams have been used for at least 20 years that I know of. You need them if you want to open up a weight bearing wall. Great stuff.

Reading further, I love the idea of kits for houses again like the old Sears houses. There are tons of those in Cincinnati and they have held up very well over the decades. They're a very hot commodity. I particularly love that CLT would lend itself very well to midcentury modern types of homes.
