if they don’t get put away for winter correctly (a guy comes by with a big compressor and blows them out), things freeze and break. Last year the main brass valve that comes out of the house didn’t get emptied properly, and it broke and Steve had to replace it. This year one of the heads by the street was shattered, the first year another by the street was cracked, one year I stuck a pitchfork through one of the buried hoses while planting . (People really should have a detailed map of where everything is buried) also, frost heaves tend to shift the heads, and the ones that go back and forth only are adjustable to one side, so if they get off on the fixed side, you are out of luck (unless you dig everything up)
