The U.S. Navy's top officials recommended Friday that the captain relieved of duty after sounding the alarm of a growing coronavirus outbreak aboard an aircraft carrier should be reinstated, The New York Times reports.

The decision to reinstate Navy Capt. Brett Crozier's command of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt sits with Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. The Pentagon boss, who was briefed on the recommendations following a U.S. Navy investigation, has yet to sign off on the reinstatement of the captain. He is expected to make a decision Friday.

"Gilday met with Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on Tuesday and with Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Friday morning to lay out his recommendations. An official says Esper has asked for a delay in any public announcement while he considers the recommendation."

This should be a navy issue. I'm astonished that the chief of naval operations (Adm. Gilday) needs to confer with the defense secretary and the chair of the joint chiefs of staff over who the navy wants as captain of a freakin' ship. This is political bull ****.

The only reason Adm. Gilday needs cover from Esper and Milley is because of fears about how the disgusting asshole in the WH might react. The only honorable response from Esper should have been, "John, this is your call." But no, Esper has to worry about the reaction of the deviant in the WH too. Our military is covered in dishonor at present.
