jon-nycAll charges dropped against Jussie Smollett
Except the cops are publicly and privately furious. They don’t seem to have wanted this.

wtgAgree with jon. Rahm was on Good Morning America this morning and Stephanopolous couldn't stop Rahm's rant.
The prosecutors never notified the police they were dropping the charges. The mayor and police chief found out the same time the public did. They're both furious about this.
https://www.chicagotribune.com....html#nt=oft06a-1li2The prosecutor went to a grand jury and managed to get 16 felony counts. A month later, they're like "never mind".
Right.

Something is very off. And we don't know who's culpable. The Chicago PD isn't known for it's angelic behavior.
But we do know that the Chicago police chief was on Goodmorning America or some such program talking as if Smollett had already been convicted when there hadn't even been a trial yet. As far as I'm concerned we have the best outcome one can expect from such shenanigans.

You actually think he didn't set this up, Bernard?
In short, yes. But I leave open the possibility that he did set it up, and it would have been nice if Chicago PD could have shut their f'n mouths long enough to ensure a fair trial so we could determine what really happened.
Also, this whole thing would have been pretty easy to stage by someone else in order to snare Smollett.
At the moment, I believe him over the cops because of the way the cops handled this. Willing to be
proven wrong. But I still believe in innocence until proven guilty.

OK, seriously, Google is reporting (from various wacko sites) that the Obamas were behind this?

wtgThe Cook County state's attorney who recused herself explains the decision (second video). Possible auto-start warning.
"We thought we could convict him, but the outcome from a trial might have been the same - restitution and community service".
Nina - the first video may explain the Obama references you're hearing about.

QuirtEvansAnd El Presidente has promised a federal investigation, because “It is an embarrassment to our Nation!”
https://www.politico.com/story...sie-smollett-1241308I wonder what he thinks the embarrassment is. It is certainly possible that he thinks the Chicago police are the embarrassment ... because Rahm is from the Clinton cabal.

NinaAnd the Obamas were from Chicago, don't forget.
I've tried to understand this case, and I simply can't figure it out. It's just goofy as can be, and this last didn't help. I'm hoping we find out what really happened, but I have my doubts. At this point, the conspiracy theories are going to town and it's difficult to weed through the garbage to find anything.

jon-nycNice one, Rahm.
It’s “only” (to Jussie) 130k. But if he pays, he’ll look guilty to the few remaining fans that think he’s innocent. If he fights, there will be discovery...

jon-nycIt's not just a civil action, either (potentially)
“If the amount is not timely paid, the Department of Law may prosecute you [Mr. Smollett] for making a false statement to the City under section 1-21-010 of the Municipal Code of Chicago or pursue any other legal remedy available at law,” it reads. “A violation of the false statement ordinance imposes a fine of not less than $500 and a maximum of $1,000, plus up to three times the amount of damages the City sustains as a result of the violation. The City may also seek to recover court costs, collection costs, and attorney’s fees.”
