Sorry I didn't think of this before, but what entertaining and/or delicious things might you suggest for someone on a brief visit to Cleveland?

Sons and I are leaving tomorrow for there for at least one AirBnB overnight so I can see a specialist. They were already coming for Passover but then my appt was scheduled during their visit so they'll drive me - also make sure the appointment is maximally useful.

Especially depending on whether and when they schedule me extra tests, we will have free time. Wondering what might be fun to visit. (Rock N Roll Hall of Fame has been suggested. Worthwhile?)

Also, thoughts for where we might eat - medium price (a treat but not bankrupting).

(NOT looking forward to driving through snow and rain on the way there! Chance 100% )

If you have only one day the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the place to go, particularly if the weather is bad. There’s a jam session area upstairs where you can form an impromptu band and jam with other patrons. The place is HUGE so allow some time.

For dinner you might like Slymans Polish Restaurant - one of the oldest in the city and representave of local culture.

I like the looks of Merwins on the Cuyahoga River. We usually eat outside but the restaurant itself is cool. Middle price Midwest and tavern food.

4th Street is walkable and the new restaurant row with all the trendy places. Michael Symon’s “Mabel” is there but it’s closed Monday. It’s a cool place and not expensive. BBQ style food in an industrial looking setting.

If you come back after June 1 the (enclosed) observation deck at the top of Terminal Tower is cool - the view is for miles! Every time I go up there I wonder why they never straightened out the River. Cost is like $5.

The Garfield Memorial has exceptional tile work and is worth a look. Building it required so many skilled Italian craftsmen that the neighborhood around it became Little Italy. Check hours before going - it’s not always open.

The Botanical Garden has a butterfly enclosure you can walk around in. Lots of butterflies when we were there but I’m not sure if that’s seasonal. I’d call first.

If you know when you might be free I’d like to drive in to the city to meet you, weather permitting. Forecast is for a lot of snow but that could well change - it usually does. I’ll PM my phone number.

NO The Army Corp of Engineers has done too much of that. Hydraulic Complexity is lost, among other things.

We spent much more time than expected both driving there and also on appointments and tests.

However, we finished day one with a grand feast at the Istanbul Restaurant, which was especially familial as it was filling up to the brim since we arrived when the Ramadan fast was ending. (The owner, Aziz Bey, only seated us as a favor as it turned out we'd needed a reservation.) My sons and he exchanged friendly information about their various Turkish origins. (We enjoyed perusing fourth street restaurants online and in person - really fun, Steve.) After dinner we stopped in an atmospheric 4th St. club/bar The "Society Lounge". I had my first alcoholic beverage in at least a year - an exotic house Margerita with iced cucumber cubes (had two, and suddenly felt very fuzzy, needed to lean on both sons to get back to the car.)

The next day between check-out and appointments went to the Cleveland Art Museum which was a very pleasant surprise - had no idea. Loved their sculpture collection and novelty exhibits described to us by an elegant Museum docent who turned out to be from Penn State.

A gorgeous walk from there to the Clinic, on the only sunny day all week (as I told Steve, we lost hours on the way there on a backroad, owing to a badly timed snowstorm. Google told us that route would save us much time. ) It caused a long bumper to bumper stalemate because of multiple accidents up in the mountains. Good thing we were able to stay good humored thanks to our traditional word games!

And now we have an entertaining todo list for any future visits too - just wish it and Steve weren't quite so far!

I get that, but if you went to the top of terminal tower and watched the big boats backing and filling to navigate the various twists in the River you’d wonder too.
