Is anyone threading?
I used to pluck my brows. Now I wax. But I have seen threading studios in the mall. It seems to be growing in popularity.

Has anyone tried threading their brows? I almost went in to try it today, but I chickened out. With waxing, it’s over in a flash. Threading sounds like slow torture.

Is it as bad as it looks?

I can't help you, I'm old fashioned, I just use tweezers.

My eyebrows are so light now I almost never do anything to them anymore. But I watched the threading YouTube videos a long while back and thought it was pretty fascinating. (Think I even tried it, and it wasn’t easy).

I just googled why is threading better than plucking, and I'm not convinced.

I'm also not a fashionista, so that might be the core problem...

I had it done once. I couldn't tell you why it would be considered better than plucking. I mean...you're pulling hairs out, one at a time. Why would it feel much different?

I thought it hurt less than waxing, but it's really the same amount of pain. You just get it over quicker with waxing. "Sugaring" was a thing for a while, which was pretty much like waxing, only the sticky part was hot, melty sugar. It felt about the same.

Waxing and sugaring both made my face break out, so I didn't keep doing those things. I eventually got laser treatments around my brows to clean up stray hairs. You can't get a fine, hard line that way, but softer brows seem more flattering for my features, and there's no maintenance to keep up with now.

Ahh, so these different techniques do actually result in visible differences? I missed that detail.

I'm not sure if anything but plucking individual hairs will give that hard line that comes and goes out of fashion but that I have steadfastly resisted.

If I'm right about that, you can probably get it with threading, which seems to me to be just an alternate way to pluck hairs one by one.

I also suspect that some people's brows are more amenable to achieving that look than others. I imagine that it works better for heavy, thick brows, but I don't know that for sure. I think a softer look is more flattering on most people, but tastes differ.

I think this is one of those times where it pays to be both a non-fashionista and have light hair.

I've never plucked, threaded, waxed my eyebrows. They're supposed to be a solid line across your forehead, right? Ole

(Honestly I have never shaped my eyebrows.)

My eyebrows are very dark brown, and if I didn't pluck, would be a mono-brow! So I have been plucking since... Probably since high school???

Mine are dark, too.

I did a lot of plucking over the years, until I got the laser treatments in my forties--between the brows to eliminate any risk of a monobrow, plus some minor cleanup of the brows themselves. It was a good choice for me.

my brows are totally unmanageable now. I used to pluck stray hairs and then comb the rest into a desired posture. but now there is no hope for them. except maybe to shave them off and then paint them back on.

when and if the day comes that i need to care how i look--if it ever comes again--i think i'll fly to new york and get a complete makeover. my years as a horse girl haven't been kind to my looks. but not really caring is one of the bennies of being a horse girl! Big Grin

I used to pluck, but I lack the patience and skill to get a really good line.

When I hit 50, I noticed that I didn't need to pluck much because my brows had become really thin. But they still need shaping. I use brow pencil most days, and having a good shape to start with helps a lot.

I guess I'll stick with the wax.

And yes, styles change. A relative my age actually got her eyebrows tattooed. IMHO, it is way too dark and exaggerated, as though she were a cartoon. It is not going to age well.

Yeah this is basically why I would never do any make up tattoos.

When I was in my mid-20s, I did my eyebrows in a very dramatic style (my hair as well but we won't go there).

If I had that style tattooed in, I would be, to put it mildly, very regretful now...

I don’t have a lot in the way of eyebrows any more (thanks, aging), so I just pluck the strays. And then pencil on what’s lacking. My hairdresser and my pedicurist both have licenses to do microblading (eyebrow tattooing, really) and would love for me to spend $400 on it, but my $8 pencil does just fine, thank you.

I did go to a threading party about 20 years ago; it went fine, but I really don’t need the service.
