Big JohnMy surgery last week that wasn't
Just a funny aside.
I scheduled a bunionectomy for last Thursday.
They've been advertising this "new heart check" on the radio for $65 that includes a cat scan of the heart, an unltrasound of the aorta (looking for aneurysms and hernias), a doppler mic on the feet to check for correct extremity pressure (you can hear the blood "whooshing" through the veins). and a few other things. All for $65 cash!
So I thought "better do it before my surgery cuz the recovery could be long."
Silly me had it done at the same hospital (on Tuesday) as my surgery (on Thursday).
The cat scan revealed a higher-than-expected "calcification score"
Could be an outlier as ALL other numbers were well below my age range.
But... the anesthesiologist saw it and said "nope. He needs to be cleared by a cardiologist."
So now I don't have an excuse not to go Christmas shopping!
I see the cardiologist in early Jan. I'm sure I'll be okay but my Doc put me on a statin and I can FEEL the difference.
Moral of this story -- get non-essential tests done elsewhere or after surgery.

Steve MillerYou can feel the difference on statins?
Is this common?

wtgMr wtg got "statin fog". And the muscle aches.
But I'm not sure if those are the types of differences that Big John is referring to....

CHASMaybe you should find out what you can about statins. they might not be for you.
Try another doctor?

Hmm, I'm not so sure that's the moral of the story.
A gentleman in the dept where I work had a routine surgery (I think it was his knee?) and died. I heard it had to do with the anesthesia. He was 48 years old.
I know it's a hassle to have a procedure delayed, but if the anesthesiologist says nope, I would be grateful.

Big JohnNo the statin had the opposite effect. Felt like a blood thinner. felt like my blood turned from syrup to water. No muscle aches or pains, which my doc said were a possibility.
My cholesterol is only borderline but it's still borderline. Why keep it there?
Not sure what the mechanism is in the statin but felt "better" after the FIRST dose -- and it's stayed with me.
