(Nice picture.)

My response?

Up yours. Tiki

It's a Polynesian island. It's not Disneyland.

By all means research and educate yourself before you go anywhere remote in HI.

But these people are just idiots.

I have something to say about the irresponsible and plain stupid plans for the EPA Superfund toxic waste equivalent dump which comprises the ruins of Lahaina.

Later.

I'll post it in this thread.

They want your money and to think Maui's fine.

It's not.

Unless you've been there it's hard to imagine both the necessary protections for these delicate, remote areas or the idiocy of the tourons. On Road to Hana we saw people going into areas they are not allowed in, and even saw kids sitting on guardrails of hundred plus feet drops straight down. Since Lahaina is gone I suspect that road is even more crowded.

Been there?

I lived there for eighteen years.

It is perfectly legal to go to Red Sand Beach.

This is an advisory statement.

Yes, Maui is delicate but its environmental degradation over the last forty years is not due to responsible hikers.

Of course many remote places on the Islands are dangerous.

Do your research.

(Not you, Mik. 'You' in general.)
